Viceroy Anguilla Hotel - Poolside at Aleta’s Restaurant, on Sunday April 29th was a beautiful night and setting for the 2nd Viceory / AHTA Culinary Team Chef Showcase of Food and all in attendance agree that all expectations were surpassed.
The setting was beautifully appointed by Black Orchard and lent a most appropriate back drop for this growing event. Guests were offered generous portions of specialty menus from 12 different restaurants from across the island.
Rainbow Farms added a special treat for the children – displaying beautiful white fluffy rabbits and overflowing baskets of beautiful island grown vegetables. Picante Restaurant added a special treat for the adults when they once again provided the Margarita Bar, which was kept busy all evening.
This year, the event was blessed with the fabulous talents of “Old Man Nuncy” who did a fabulous job as the master of ceremonies and music by DJ Sugar and British Dependency added to the evening’s enjoyment.
As the young chefs work hard to establish themselves as the best in the region, the event continues to highlight notable Anguillian chefs that have gone before them and paved the way. Chef Vernon Hughes from E’s Oven, was surprised and delighted when Chef George Reid of Viceroy spoke to the audience of Chef Hughes many accomplishments and the team presented him with a beautiful plaque.
The event was the brainchild of Mr. Jeff David, General Manager of Viceroy and Board of Director of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association and he has promised to repeat it next year and that efforts will be taken to make it even better.
The Anguilla Culinary Team will travel to Miami on June 18th-26th, to represent Anguilla, at the Taste of the Caribbean Competition which is a regional competition. Let’s cheer them on to the gold. All funds raised from the event will go directly to assisting the 12 team members to defray the cost of attending the competition.
