National Culinary Team Thanks Supporters

Press Release: ANGUILLA, BRITISH WEST INDIES, Wednesday, July 2, 2012

The Anguilla National Culinary Team wishes to thank everyone who made it possible for them to compete at Taste of the Caribbean in Miami for their support and commitment. Under very difficult circumstances, the Team traveled to Miami on June 18th - and competed at the Taste of the Caribbean Competition and did very well.

2012 Anguilla National Culinary Team

The lesson in this competition was far from cooking, mixology, or even winning - this year, it was more of a lesson in courage, strength, unity, support, loyally, camaraderie and love.

Thanks must go to the Haiti Culinary Team, who despite never having competed against Anguilla or knowing any of the Team, wore black ribbons with small Haiti symbol pins on their shirts in solidarity. Thanks also to CHTA for their support of our requests, especially to  Alec Sanguinetti for his patience and entertaining a moment of silence during the lunch competition event in honor of Jordel Gumbs. This we will never forget!

Again, we are especially grateful to the following people and businesses in the Anguillian community:
The Anguilla Tourist Board, Jeff David, Jackie Ruan and Ripples Restaurant, JoAsh Proctor, Cherine Connor and the staff of Sandy Island Restaurant, Cap Juluca management and staff, CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa management and staff, Carrie and Jerry Bogar of Veya Restaurant, the staff of Viceroy Anguilla, Charles Voudouris, Cape Air, Anguilla Air Express,  Picante Restaurant, Merchants Market, Nat Hodge and the staff of The Anguillian, Trudy Nixon, Rhona Richardson and staff of Rainbow Farms, Black Orchard Florist, Ole Man Nuncy, Jacala Restaurant, Dolce Vita Restaurant, Barrel Stay Restaurant, Anguilla Silk Printing and EVASS printers. If anyone has been left off the above list, it was not deliberate and we thank you also.

We cannot forget to say a final special thanks to Sherille Hughes (Aunty Sherille, as she is known to the team), who made sure she arrived in Miami in time to attend Taste 2012. (I have been told that she has never missed a Taste of the Caribbean Competition, and I think she must be named as the team's official Mascot.)

As we look towards next year’s competition with a lighter heard, we look forward to your continued support. Taste of the Caribbean is scheduled next year for June 26-30, 2013 at the Hyatt Hotel Downtown Miami.
